Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation

We envision a vibrant and healthy India that is guided by sound science to manage its natural resources. Our global mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Our global vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives.

We are supporting national conservation priorities by applying our expertise in science and global experience, as well as our ability to take initiatives to scale and collaborate.

We’re working in Tungi village of Majhdia in the Nadia district of West Bengal to avoid deforestation, to restore degraded lands and undertake agro-forestry for fuel-wood such that the pressure on intact forests is reduced. We complete large protection deals using innovative finance, share smart infrastructure sitting principles to encourage sustainable development and partner with local people to strengthen their rights as environmental stewards.

With more and more people moving into cities, overcoming urban challenges like air pollution, the availability of clean drinking water, flood control and the heat effect are becoming more critical than ever if cities are to remain livable.

We’re working in Kolkata, in the Eastern state of India, to slow further decline and save what remains of its natural wetlands by raising awareness for restoring natural water bodies. We’re demonstrating how green infrastructure, such as planting trees, can address urban challenges, including storm-water run-off, air pollution and heat islands.

We’re working in support of the rollout of renewable energy projects across villages in a manner that doesn’t further destroy areas of high conservation value. We’re implementing and increasing the emphasis on readily available, cost-effective Natural Climate Solutions, such as reforestation, and driving policy changes to accelerate our transition to a clean energy future.

And in villages, we are working with farmers to end crop residue burning to prevent millions of tones of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.
